A security guard is in critical condition after being hit by a car in front of Saint Joseph's Hospital just after 6 p.m. Saturday night.

Officials from Tucson police say guards at the hospital noticed a car driving around the parking lot for an unclear reason.

When one guard went into the lot to speak with the driver of the car, the driver drove straight toward the guard and hit the guard with his car.

The security guard who was hit by the car was taken to Banner University Medical Center for treatment.

The driver then tried to take off from the scene but ran into a tree in the parking lot. After hitting the tree he jumped out of the car and ran away.

According to TPD, the driver ran southbound on Wilmot and was chased by other security guards.

Officials say members from the Tucson Fire Department saw security guards chasing a man down the road and were able to restrain him.

The driver was also taken to a hospital.

Detectives are investigating the incident for more details.
