TUCSON, Ariz. — Typically, more mainstream religious groups lead invocations at town council meetings, but in 2019, the town of Sahuarita is shaking things things up.
First reported by Sahuarita Sun, the Satanic Temple of Arizona is going to give the invocation at the Sept. 9, 2019 Sahuarita Town Council meeting, the city confirmed Monday morning.
An invocation is a short speech or prayer at the beginning of a council meeting, typically by a religious leader or group.
The Satanic Temple is a nontheistic religious and political activist group formed in 2012, and is separate from the church of Satan.
