Suppression efforts continue for the Rucker Fire burning near the Douglas Ranger District of the Coronado National Forest, Northeast of Silver Creek Church.
The fire started after a lightning strike on June 7 and has burned approximately 1,100 acres and is 61 percent contained at this time.
The U.S. Forest Service says crews made good progress yesterday and held fire lines on the west and east sides of the fire.
Today, crews continued to make progress along the flanks of the fire. Ground resources worked on direct line construction and helicopter bucket drops were used to cool hot sections of the line.
Fire managers are optimistic that progress will continue tomorrow.
Aerial resources and firefighters working on the ground will continue working on the fire until it is completely suppressed.
To protect public safety and allow fire suppression activities to continue, temporary closures include: all trails south of Southfork, trails out of West Turkey Creek, trails South of Rustler Park, and road 74E.
A temporary flight restriction is also in place, including drones or unmanned aerial vehicles.
