TUCSON, Ariz. — The parent company of the Rosemont Copper Mine is appealing a Federal court order that stopped the project.
The Rosemont project would open a large open pit mine in the Santa Rita Mountains near Sonoita.
Environmentalists and tribal governments have fought the mine.
Hudbay, Rosemont's parent company needs Forest Service approval to pile material dug out of the land on Forest Service property.
Federal Judge James Soto ruled the Forest Service misinterpreted regulations when it granted those permits.
Now the company is asking a Federal Appeals Court to overrule him.
