The Rio Nuevo Board voted Tuesday to contribute $2.4M to the Gadsden Company to help launch a mixed-use project on Tucson's west side in the Mercado District.

According to a press release from Rio Nuevo, the project includes 122 courtyard housing units, 13,000 square feet of retail space, and an underground garage.

This is a great project, said Board Chairman Fletcher McCusker. "It is with partners we have worked with before, has dramatic sales tax revenue and continues to fill out the District's western sector.
President and CEO of Gadsden Company, Adam Weinstein, says the project could break ground as early as October.
