PHOENIX (AP) - Authorities say five people are dead following a head-on crash in an outlying area of metropolitan Phoenix.
Maricopa County Sheriff's Office spokesman Chris Hegstrom says two cars collided Sunday night in the Sun Lakes area on the southern fringe of the metro area.
Hegstrom says four people died at the scene and a fifth person died after being taken to a hospital.
According to Hegstrom, speed and alcohol may be factors in the accident.
Hegstrom says four of those killed were in a car westbound on Hunt Highway and that the fifth was in a car heading east.
Identities of the victims were not released and no other details were immediately available.
Sun Lakes is located approximately 20 miles southeast of downtown Phoenix.
