Reigning bull riding champ defends his title

Posted

TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - The reigning Tucson Bull Riding champion took to the arena on Thursday to defend his title.

After surgery took him out of competition for six months, this is only the second weekend Beau Hill has been back on a bull.

Bull riding is known as the most dangerous rodeo event.

"They don't run away from you. They don't try to kick you and run off. They'll a lot of times come back and try to hook you, run over you," he said.

Hill has a good reputation for being pretty good at riding bulls. This year he is riding with an added accessory.

"I had some bone chips removed out of it, I had my own bone shaved down, had some ligaments repaired and some arthritis in my hand worked on."

Still, he prepares to get on a bull he has never seen before.

Eight seconds is all it takes.

"Sometimes it feels like eight hours."

Hill ended Thursday with a score of 82.5.  Will it be high enough for Sunday's championship round? Stay tuned.
