Racing in the Sun program encouraging students to use their engineering skills

TUCSON, Ariz. - Students from 17 high schools around the state came together in Tucson on Saturday.

These students came together to put their knowledge and creativity to the test.

Carol Stewart with Tech Parks Arizona says, some of these kids could be Tucson's future enigineers.

Stewart says the "Racing in the Sun" event has grown a lot since it started eight years ago with17 go-carts on the track today, compared to just three in the race's first year.

MEANTIME -- STUDENTS FROM 17 HIGH SCHOOLS AROUND THE STATE -- CAME TOGETHER IN TUCSON TODAY -- TO PUT THEIR KNOWLEDGE AND CREATIVITY TO THE TEST.

THESE STUDENTS WORKED ALL YEAR LONG TO MAKE SOLAR-POWERED GO-KARTS -- AND TODAY WAS THE BIG RACE.
