TUCSON, Ariz. — Two dogs seen near a bat that tested positive for rabies in Tucson Tuesday may be in danger of contracting the disease, Pima County Animal Care Center (PACC) says.
It happened at an apartment complex near Oracle and Magee Roads, PACC said in a press release. A woman told officials she heard a commotion outside and opened her door to find two dogs off leash. She also saw a live bat on the ground nearby.
PACC workers took the bat to the Tucson Wildlife Center, where it was euthanized. Public health officials confirmed Friday the animal tested positive for rabies.
PACC is now asking for the public's help identifying the two dogs that may have been exposed to the bat. The witness described the dogs as small, scruffy and brown. Anyone with information should call PACC at 520-724-5900, then press 4.
