TUCSON, Ariz. - An library program this month will let users with overdue item fines wipe the ledger clean with food donations.

Food for Fines, which runs April 15-30, will allow those with overdue item debt to clear $1 off the fines for each nonperishable food donation.

Canned fruits and vegetables, peanut butter, tuna cans and cereal will be accepted. Homemade and expired food, as well as goods in glass containers, won't be welcome.

Donations will be accepted at any Pima County Public Library location.

The donations only cover overdue item fees. Lost material, damaged fees and collection agency fees can't be eliminated with the program.
