The H. S. Lopez Family Foundation bought the old Holiday Inn on Palo Verde Road, and they're transforming it into a new center to help tucson's veterans and homeless get back on their feet.

When finished, it will called the Family Center of Opportunity.

There are more than 300 rooms that will be used as housing for those who need it.

The ballrooms will eventually have beds as shelter space too.

The industrial kitchen here for job training, and several programs and non-profits already helping vulnerable groups here in tucson will have offices here, so this will be a place where people can come to turn their life around.

But it's much more than a place to stay. Mental health counselors, addiction counselors, job counselors and social services will now all be in one place for families in Tucson.

The H.S. Lopez Family Foundation spent $3.4 million dollars on the hotel.

The foundation said it hopes to open its doors within the next year and be fully occupied within two years.

Currently, the planning is still in early phases, so any companies or non-profits interested in participating in the cemetery should contact the foundation at 520-245-9737.
