TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - Tucson City Council has approved raising the Reid Park Zoo admission prices on a 7-0 vote on Tuesday night, according to Lane Mandle with the City of Tucson.
The admission prices will be increasing $1.50 for everyone.
Prices for adults would go from $8 to $9.50 during peak season. Seniors would pay $7.50. Admission for children ages two to 14 would go from $5 to $6.50.
Zoo admission is typically $1 more during the Fall and Winter.
Officials estimate the hike will generate around $358,800 a year. Some of the revenue will go back into the city's general fund and about $150,000 will be used for capital improvement projects at the zoo.
About $70,000 will be spent on a new freezer for the animal's food. The current freezer is more than 40 years old.
The zoo admission prices will go into effect the first week of July.
