MESA, Ariz. (AP) - Police in Mesa say a man has been arrested in connection with a shooting at a hotel that left one person dead and another injured.

They say 44-year-old Anthony Wayne Gushee was taken into custody late Monday night.

He's jailed on suspicion of one count each of second-degree murder and aggravated assault.

Police were called to the hotel Monday afternoon and found two people with gunshot wounds inside a room.

They say the man was pronounced dead at the scene and the woman was taken to a hospital with leg injuries.

Their names haven't been released.

The woman told police Gushee allegedly shot them because he thought they stole his drugs.

Police say Gushee has a history of drug-related offenses.

It was unclear Tuesday if Gushee has a lawyer yet.
