SURPRISE, Ariz. - Authorities say an infant was found to have meth in his system after spending the day with his mother's stepmom.
Surprise police report that on March 25 officers were contacted by officials at Banner Thunderbird Medical Center after a 6-month-old boy tested positive for methamphetamine.
The victim’s mother told police she left the boy with her stepmother, 39-year-old Rene Marie Galbreath, for the night. When she arrived at the home, near El Mirage and Greenway roads, she found her son on the bed in Galbreath’s room.
Soon after, the infant "began throwing up a black tar-like substance," according to court documents.
Investigators searched the home and reportedly found "numerous pieces of drug paraphernalia" and several baggies of crystal meth.
Police say all the items were either on the floor in Galbreath’s room or on a small dresser.
Galbreath admitted to being addicted, according to police. The victim was reportedly in her room for about six hours.
Galbreath has been charged with child abuse and multiple counts of drug possession.
