Police identify victim, search for driver involved in deadly hit and run downtown

TUCSON, Ariz. — Tucson Police Department is investigating a deadly hit and run that happened early Saturday morning downtown.

Police say officers responded to the area of 200 block East Congress Street in front of The Hub around 2:30 a.m. for report about a serious injury crash.

Tucson Fire was called to the scene and attempted to treat the man on the scene, but he was later pronounced dead.

The victim was identified as 50-year-old Stanley Torinese Jr. according to police.

Police say a Torinese Jr. was walking westbound when he stumbled and fell down into the roadway.

Torinese Jr. did lay in the roadway for a while, police said.

While Torinese Jr. was in the roadway a Gold/Tan Chevy Pickup Truck ran him over, according to police.

The driver fled the scene heading westbound on Congress Street.

Police described the vehicle as a late 1990’s model or early 2000 model, single cab, Gold/Tan Chevrolet Pickup Truck with a chrome toolbox in the back.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call 911 or 88-CRIME.
