PHOENIX, Ariz. — Authorities say a 5-year-old boy has been struck and killed by a pickup truck after he dashed into the roadway.

Phoenix Police Sgt. Tommy Thompson said Friday that Branden Weaver Jr. ran out from between two parked cars Thursday afternoon and was struck by a truck driven westbound by a 71-year-old man in the 2500-block of W. Maryland Ave.

The driver remained on the scene and officers found no sign that alcohol or drugs were factors in the accident. Authorities did not identify the man.

The child was transported to a local hospital, where he died from his injuries.
