University of Arizona police have stopped searching for a suspect near campus after discovering a gun he discarded was just a toy.
According to an alert sent out my police, the suspect was in the area of Tyndall to 2nd Ave. and 6th to 8th streets.
Police say a man who had been detained for questioning ran off and dropped a gun that turned out to be a toy on the ground. They called off the search for the man and cleared the area near the school.
UAPD working a possible armed individual in the area of Tyndall to 2nd Ave,6th St to 8th Street. Stay clear of area.

Nearby Tucson High and Roskruge K-8 were on soft lockdown due to the search, Tucson Unified School District spokeswoman Stefanie Boe said. The lockdowns were shortly lifted.
