PHOENIX (AP) - Phoenix police say impairment is suspected in a three-vehicle wreck in which one person was killed and several others injured.

Police Sgt. Jamie Rothschild identified the person killed in the wreck that occurred at South Seventh Avenue and West Baseline Road at about 4 a.m. Saturday as 21-year-old Jessica Mendoza.

Rothschild said Mendoza was a passenger in a car that investigators believed ran a stop sign, made a right turn at an intersection and collided with an oncoming vehicle after veering across the center line.

He said the oncoming car apparently then was struck by a SUV.

Rothschild said Mendoza apparently wasn't wearing a seat belt and was among seven people in the car that apparently ran the stop sign and one of five people in the back seat.
