TUCSON, Ariz. — The Tucson Police Department is investigating a deadly single-vehicle crash that happened Friday on the southeast side.

Police say officers were called out to the area of South Kolb Road and East Century Park Drive for a report about a serious-injury crash around 1:30 p.m.

Tucson Fire Department crews took the driver to the hospital, where he died shortly after arrival.

Police identified the driver as 53-year-old Hector Montaño.

Detectives determined Montaño was driving northbound on Kolb in the curb lane. His vehicle had drifted to the right going over the curb lane and hitting a street sign. The vehicle then swerved to the left crossing all northbound lanes, the vehicle went over the raised median and crossed all southbound lanes where the vehicle collided with a tree on the southwest corner Century Park Drive and Kolb Road, according to TPD.

Detectives are investigating Montaño’s death was a result of the crash or a possible medical situation that happened while he was driving. Speed does not appear to be a factor in the crash.

Police say no one else was in the vehicle at the time of the crash and no other vehicles were involved.

The investigation is still ongoing.
