Suspect arrested in connection to fatal hit and run

UPDATE: Tucson Police say a suspect has been arrested in connection to a fatal hit and run pedestrian collision. 

After TPD released information to the media, someone called in a tip to police. Officers arrested 23-year-old Andrew Ortiz in connection to the crash. He was booked on one court of failure to stop at a collision involving death or serious physical injury. Officers believe he was driving the vehicle involved the night of the collision.

It happened earlier this month near downtown Tucson. 

New developments in the investigation confirm the victim was walking in the roadway when he was struck by an vehicle near East Speedway and North 3rd Ave. Investigators believe the vehicle involved is a blue 2004 to 2008 Chrysler PT Cruiser and may have a damaged windshield and/or passenger side window.

On June 10 officers from Operations Division West responded to a residence in the 500 block of East Speedway to check on 30-year-old, Rafiq Oulebsir, who was yelling in the front yard. The caller said he heard a loud crash and found Oulesbir in the front yard.

When the officers arrived, they noticed Oulesbir had injuries on one of his legs. He was unable to tell officers what happened but witnesses and debris in the roadway confirmed he was struck by a vehicle. The vehicle did not stay at the scene.

The victim passed away at the hospital from internal injuries on June 18. 

Detectives are asking anyone with information about the incident to call 88-CRIME, you can remain anonymous. They area also asking vehicle repair shops to pay attention to anyone requesting work on this type of vehicle.
