PHOENIX (AP) - Phoenix police say a mother and her three young children were hospitalized in serious condition after being struck by a hit-and-run vehicle while crossing a street and that one child in a stroller was dragged under the car before witnesses stopped it and removed her.

Sgt. Tommy Thompson says 25-year-old woman, a 2-year-old girl and boys ages 3 and 5 were stopped in a left-turn lane Friday night when they were struck by a four-door sedan.

Thompson says the stroller carrying the girl was trapped under the vehicle and dragged away before witnesses were able to stop the car a few blocks away and tell the driver that someone was under his vehicle.

Thompson says the driver left the scene after witnesses removed the girl.
