Tucson police detained a man who barricaded himself inside a vehicle at a southside Walmart Neighborhood Market parking lot.
Police say the man, who was rambling and would not cooperate with authorities, had a loaded handgun. He locked himself inside the vehicle with a dog for about seven hours. Police broke into the vehicle, hit the man with pepper balls and a taser, then took him into custody in the 3 a.m. hour Tuesday.
Police have dealt with the man several times in the past. He was not allowed to have the firearm due to past convictions. He is being treated for non-life threatening injuries. The dog was unharmed.
The store is at 2565 E. Commerce Center Place.
