On Thursday, Tucson police started extra enforcement to patrol school zones.

TPD is starting patrols in the Vail district because they've gotten several complaints about speeders unsafely driving by Senita Elementary School and Rincon Vista Middle School.

Officers will be handing out warnings and citations, so here's what you can do to avoid getting a ticket:

1. If lights are not flashing, drive 15 mph until through crosswalk.

2. Stop when lights begin to flash: treat this as a stop sign.

3. If people are crossing, stop until everyone is fully across street--not just across the lane you're driving in.

4. No passing: you cannot move your vehicle ahead of any part of another car.

TPD says they don't want to hand out tickets, but these are all laws, and protecting your children is top priority.
