Tucson police investigated a shooting threat at Magee Middle School Tuesday, but say the threat was a hoax and school is proceeding as planned.

Tucson Unified School District spokeswoman Stefanie Boe told KGUN that police investigated a threat made by bathroom wall graffiti that there would be a shooting at the school. Sgt. Pete Dugan confirmed the threat was of a shooting.

Boe said the absent rate on Tuesday was about 13%.  The absent rate Monday was about 7%.

The principal of Magee said about 50 children were kept home because of the incident, said Boe.

Boe said via email:

"School Safety and Tucson Police are at Magee Middle School this morning out of abundance of caution after a threat was found on a bathroom wall. The threat was investigated and not found to be credible. School is continuing as normal."

The school is at 8300 E. Speedway.
