FLORENCE, Ariz. (AP) - A Pinal County inmate is in critical condition after she attempted to take her own life.
The Pinal County Sheriff's Office says the 34-year-old female inmate was found unconscious in her cell Friday afternoon by a detention officer.
Sheriff's spokesman Mark Clark says the inmate had a sheet around her neck.
She was rushed to Chandler Regional Medical Center by air.
The inmate, who has not been identified, was arrested Wednesday on charges of child abuse, possession of marijuana, auto theft, hit and run, criminal damage and trespassing.
She was being held on $12,500 bond.
The incident remains under investigation.
Jail staff say they were not aware of this inmate threatening to kill herself.
She was not under any special monitoring status.
