PIMA COUNTY, Ariz. — It's Monday and Pima county health officials want to help you quit smoking.

The Pima County Health Department is launching its new "Quit and Stay Quit Monday" campaign. It can be incredibly difficult to quit, so the idea is that even if you slip up you can always use Monday as a reset day.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, cigarette smoking causes more than 480,0000 deaths in the United States each year. Program manager Rebecca O'Brien says there are things you can do to kick the deadly habit.

"For some folks cold turkey works, for others they need a little bit of additional support," O'Brien said. "There's also nicotine replacement therapy which are things like gum and the patch, but the goal for this campaign is to really encourage folks to quit smoking on Mondays.

The county also has this check-in sheet you can use to stay accountable.

For help to quit smoking you can call the health department at (520) 724 - 7904.

The health department is working with the Monday Campaigns and Arizona Smokers Helpline, or ASHline.
