TUCSON, Ariz. — First-graders around Pima County were rewarded Tuesday for finishing a state drowning prevention course.
For a job well done, they got an up close and personal with rescue vehicles and put their skills to the test by rescuing lifeguards out of a pool.
Organizers say the graduation comes at a perfect time.
"School is going to be wrapping up and there's greater chance that they're going to be around the pool or also at a lake, so we want to make sure they're safe for all those scenarios," event organizer Tracy Koslowski said.
The event was sponsored by Safe Kids Pima County and Community Partners.
