PHOENIX (AP) - Authorities say a Phoenix woman is facing 15 counts of animal cruelty after six dead dogs were found in her home and nine others were discovered alive but malnourished.

Phoenix police say 61-year-old Blanche Lopez was arrested after officers on patrol smelled a suspicious odor coming from a residence Sunday night.

Officers say nobody answered the door, but they looked through a window and saw a dog that appeared to be dead and many other live dogs inside.

Police say Lopez returned home and allowed officers to enter and check on the dogs.

That's when the dead and malnourished dogs were discovered, leading to Lopez's arrest.

The rescued dogs are being treated by the Arizona Humane Society hospital.

It was unclear Tuesday if Lopez has a lawyer yet.
