PHOENIX (AP) - Phoenix police say an officer escaped injury after someone opened fire during a traffic stop.
Police spokesman James Holmes says the incident happened just after midnight Saturday near 35th Avenue and Butler Drive.
According to Holmes, the officer was trying to pull over a Chrysler 300 when someone inside the car fired one round at the officer.
The vehicle then fled.
Holmes says police later found the vehicle after it appeared to have crashed into a wall at an access road to the Black Canyon Freeway.
The vehicle was empty.
Authorities also determined it was stolen.
A search of the area did not turn up any suspects.
The incident remains under investigation.
