PHOENIX (AP) - Police have identified a man who barricaded himself inside a north Phoenix apartment before he fatally shot two dogs and then killed himself.

They say the Sept. 28 incident began as a domestic dispute between 31-year-old Daniel Allen Sudberry and his 30-year-old former girlfriend.

Police say the woman was assaulted, but she was able to get out of the apartment.

As responding officers arrived, four of them were fired upon by the suspect.

There were no reported injuries.

After about three hours of negotiations, officers tactically entered the apartment and found Sudberry dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound and two dogs who had been shot and killed.

Police say no officers fired any shots during the incident.
