PHOENIX - Police in Phoenix say a dead body found on a South Mountain hiking trail has been identified.
They say a hiker discovered the body of a man Wednesday morning while on the Geronimo hiking trail. Police announced Thursday that the body of 35-year-old Douglas Hertel was on the mountain for several days before being found. They say Hertel was reported missing by his father on Jan. 11.
Police say the incident is being looked at as a death investigation until the Maricopa County medical examiner can determine a cause of death.
