PHOENIX (AP) - Phoenix police say two officers fatally shot a man who allegedly fired first at one officer, who was struck in the chest but not seriously injured because his vest and radio stopped the bullet.
Sgt. Maggie Cox said the shooting occurred Monday night during a struggle with the man.
Cox said the man had been bicycling in downtown Phoenix when the officers tried to stop him for traffic violations.
Cox said the officers returned fire after the man pulled out a handgun and fired at least once at one of the officers. The officer was taken to a hospital for evaluation. No identities were released.
