PHOENIX (AP) - Phoenix police have arrested a man they say went after a woman who had stolen equipment from his vehicle and then shot her.

Police spokesman Trent Crump said Sunday that 41-year-old Pedro Sales has been booked for aggravated assault and a weapon violation.

According to investigators, Sales came across a woman as she was burglarizing his work vehicle Saturday around 5 a.m.

Police say Sales fired two shots from a handgun into the air, scaring off the suspect.

They say Sales then followed her and fired several more shots, hitting the 28-year-old woman.

Sales recovered stolen construction equipment before notifying police.

The burglary suspect suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

Crump says she is facing charges as well but did not specify what they will be.
