Man accused of sexually assaulting girlfriend

Posted
PHOENIX (AP) - Authorities say a Phoenix man is accused of cutting his girlfriend's throat and sexually assaulting her.

Phoenix police say 71-year-old Kenneth Jay Rhodes was arrested Monday on suspicion of attempted murder, sexual assault and kidnapping.

Rhodes was ordered held without bond at his initial court appearance Tuesday. He doesn't have a lawyer yet.

Police say the woman told them she argued and fought with Rhodes around 3 a.m. Monday at an apartment complex near 15th and Missouri avenues.

She says Rhodes punched her repeatedly in the face and body.

Court records show the woman alleges that Rhodes then got a knife from the kitchen and slit the left side of her throat.

A police report says Rhodes forced his girlfriend to take off her clothes and then sexually assaulted her.
