NOGALES, AZ — Last year alone, the US Department of Transportation says more than six million cars and pedestrians crossed through Nogales ports of entry.

More than a week ago, Customs and Border Protection announced they were relocating dozens of officers from Nogales to help with a surge in migrant apprehensions at other ports of entry.

One of the women who was crossing was returning to Mexico with a gallon of milk and supplies. She says even though she is forced to wait in longer lines, she has no other choice if she wants more variety when shopping and will wait patiently.

She says her livelihood is not impacted but it is changing her way of life.

A few miles west at the Mariposa Port of Entry, lanes have been closed to commercial trucks on Sundays.

CBP says this is also due to officers being relocated and says they strive to restore services as soon as operationally possible.
