Police identify woman killed by school bus

Tucson Police say a woman died after being struck by a school bus on Wednesday afternoon near Speedway and Kolb.

Police identified the woman as 43-year-old Kimberly Ebersbacher.

One teenager was on the bus but was not injured during the crash. The bus driver also was not injured.

Police say the driver passed out for an unknown reason before the crash, and the victim was riding a motorized scooter. The bus veered onto the sidewalk and hit the scooter.

Westbound lanes of Speedway were shut down for several hours from Pantano to Kolb because of the collision.

Sgt. Kimberly Bay with TPD says the crash happened just before 4 p.m.

The bus involved was from the Tanque Verde Unified School District. Here is a statement from the district: 

This afternoon, one of our buses was involved in an accident near Speedway and Kolb in which a pedestrian was fatally struck.  

The bus was carrying one student and neither the student nor the driver were injured. We do not have any additional details about the situation at this time. We are deeply saddened by the accident and will continue to work with the Tucson Police Department as they complete their investigation.

Sgt. Bay says the pedestrian died on scene.
