Tucson Police have identified the woman who was struck by a car and killed on the east side on Christmas Eve.

Tucson Police Sgt. Kimberly Bay said 34-year-old Maria Hong was struck on December 24, just after 11:30 p.m. in the area of Broadway and Kolb.  Hong was transported to Banner University Medical Center where she later died from her injuries.

Detectives determined the driver was driving eastbound on Broadway Blvd. in the center lane approaching a solid green traffic light at Kolb Road.  Hong was crossing Broadway from north to south not in a crosswalk.

She was then struck by the vehicle.

Bay said speed was not a factor in the collision.  However, the driver was impaired.

The driver, 31-year-old Joedaniel Gutierrez was arrested for Driving Under Influence.
