PD: Surprise student arrested for trying to attack teacher with knife

SURPRISE, Ariz. - A teen has been arrested after reportedly trying to attack a teacher with a knife in a Surprise classroom.

Surprise police say the incident happened at the Dysart Education Center on Wednesday.

Police say a high school student attempted to assault a teacher with a knife before the student was subdued by on-site private security.

According to police, the suspect was part of a therapeutic day placement program for students with specialized education plans.

It’s unclear what prompted the attack, but police say the suspect did not show aggression toward any other students.

The suspect was arrested and faces several charges, including attempt to commit first-degree murder, aggravated assault, threatening, disrupting an educational institution, and reckless display of a dangerous instrument.

The suspect’s identity has not been released, due to him being charged as a juvenile at this time.
