Eight deputies have filed a notice of claim alleging violations of overtime pay, minimum wage, retaliation, and whistleblower protection.

The 29-page claim also includes one of the chiefs -- Karl Woolridge. In a nutshell, it states the sheriff's effort to cut costs resulted in some deputies being underpaid and those who reported issues faced retaliation.

KGUN9 reached out to Sheriff Mark Napier for a response. He sent this statement: "The Sheriff's Department believes it followed County Policies, good fiscal management practices and acted appropriately. We cannot discuss the matter further, as it involves potential future litigation."

The sheriff and county have 60 days to settle the case or face a lawsuit.

We'll report on any developments.
