The Pima County Sheriff's Department is investigating a death that occurred on the east side Saturday.

According to Ryan Inglett with PCSD, deputies responded a possible domestic violence incident in the 7400 block of South Cactus Thorn Lane at 6:45 p.m. Upon arrival they located 59-year-old Laurie Vandegrift dead inside her home.

Vandegrift had obvious signs of trauma and was the only person inside the home.

Inglett says that during a 9-1-1 call, a woman believed to be Vandegrift requested law enforcement and medical services before the phone quickly disconnected.

The number was called back and a man believed to be Vandegrift's 28-year-old son, Justin Vandegrift, answered claiming he had been arguing with his mother, but everything was ok.

Several hours later Justin Vandegrift was located and was arrested for homicide.
