PHOENIX (AP) - A state commission is considering seven candidates for possible appointment to fill a Court of Appeals vacancy left by a judge's death.

The Commission on Appellate Court Nominations will hold a public review next week to consider which applicants to nominate to Gov. Doug Ducey for appointment to replace Judge Jon Thompson on the appeals court's Phoenix-based division.

Applicants include Bradley Carlyon, Veronika Fabian, Joseph Goldstein, Benjamin Kreutzberg, Matthew Mansfield, William Ring and D. Steven Williams.

Members of the public will be able to address the commission directly or send in written comments.

The meeting is scheduled Aug. 26 at 9:30 a.m. at the Arizona State Courts Building in Phoenix.

The 65-year-old Thompson died last month.

One of Arizona's longest serving judges, he has been with the court since 1995.

A cause of death was not released.
