PIMA COUNTY, Ariz. (KGUN9-TV) - Pima Animal Care Center is a hosting “Don’t Shop, Adopt” celebration on Saturday, Aug. 6.

The event goes from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at PACC’s shelter, 4000 N. Silverbell Road and will feature free pet adoptions, pet supply vendors, music, and more.

Anyone who is looking to adopt a PACC pet during the celebration will also take home a prize or gift thanks to pet supply vendors, PetSmart and Central Pet.

“We want to break the stigma, which unfortunately still exists, surrounding shelter pets,” said Justin Gallick, PACC’s director for community engagement. “People think that they can’t find cute, healthy, and well-behaved pets at PACC, when in reality that’s the place where they’ll find the most pet diversity and get the biggest bang for their buck.”

All pets come spayed or neutered, which eliminates the possibility of future litters, with up-to-date vaccinations, micro-chipped, and with a free vet visit, too. In addition, PACC will waive all pet adoption fees. A $17 licensing fee, however, will still apply to all adult dogs.

The waived adoption fee special offered during the “Adopt, Don’t Shop” Celebration will extend until 5 p.m. at PACC’s shelter and these four PetSmart locations:

  • PetSmart Oracle & Wetmore, 4374 N. Oracle Rd.
  • PetSmart Grant & Swan, 4740 E. Grant Rd.
  • PetSmart El Con, 3695 E. Broadway Blvd.
  • PetSmart Irvington & I-19, 1175 W. Irvington Rd.
There will be food trucks selling delicious food and music courtesy of D.J. Sweet Tea with Haymore Productions.
