ORO VALLEY, Ariz. — The Town of Oro Valley will vote on the appointment of its next police chief next week.

If approved, Kara M. Riley will succeed Chief Danny Sharp who retires on Feb. 21 after 20 years of service with the town.

According to a press release from the Town of Oro Valley, Riley has served as commander with OVPD since 2017. She has also been employed with the department since 2004, holding multiple positions.

“The Town was fortunate to have so many qualified applicants across the country interested in leading Oro Valley’s exceptional Police Department,” said Oro Valley Mayor Joe Winfield. “As a Council, we have agreed that selecting a police chief is one of the most important responsibilities of this body, and we are united in our commitment to select the best candidate. I am excited that the Council will have the opportunity next week to vote on the appointment of Commander Riley to that position.”

The meeting where the vote will be conducted begins at 6:00 p.m. in Town Hall Chambers at 11000 N. La Canada Drive.
