One of three masked suspects arrested in deadly shooting of Tucson PD cadet

TUCSON, Ariz. — Police have made an arrest in connection with the murder of Tucson Police Cadet Carlos Ramirez.

Early Saturday morning, police executed a search warrant at a hotel in the 4800 block of South Palo Verde Road in Tucson.

According to the Pima County Sheriff's Department, 39-year-old Santiago Jorge Rogers was arrested without incident in connection with the murder of Ramirez.

Rogers was released from prison in 2023 and he was detained on various charges including weapons misconduct, dangerous drug violation and shoplifting.

He also picked up 14 charges in prison including attempt to promote prison contraband and tampering with security or safety devices.

Detectives previously announced they are seeking three suspects in connection with the shooting, all of whom wore masks and black clothing.

Surveillance video was released showing the group, dressed in black, at a convenience store near Casino Del Sol.

One of the suspects was identified as 33-year-old Alex James Barnett, who has an active warrant for first-degree murder.

Police are still searching for a third, unidentified suspect seen in the previously released parking lot surveillance video.
