MARANA, Ariz. (KGUN) — One person has been arrested following a shooting near a Marana In-N-Out restaurant Monday afternoon.
The incident happened just before 3 p.m. when officers were called to the In-N-Out on Cortaro Road for a welfare check.
While responding to the area, officers heard multiple gunshots coming from the direction of the restaurant.
After arriving at the scene, officers discovered a man suffering from gunshot wounds and saw a suspect, identified as Charles Whipple, pointing a gun at the victim.
Whipple was detained, and the victim was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
After interviewing witnesses, investigators learned that the incident started while the victim's vehicle was stopped in the drive-thru lane. Police said Whipple approached the victim, who then proceeded through the drive-thru. Whipple then crossed the parking lot where the victim had again stopped, police added.
"As the victim began driving through the parking lot, Whipple fired three rounds toward the driver’s side window. One round or fragment of a round struck the victim," police said.
Whipple was later arrested and booked on attempted homicide in the second degree and endangerment.
