TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - The Tucson Police Department is investigating an officer-involved shooting near "A" Mountain on the 100 block of South Bella Vista Drive.
Sgt. Pete Dugan says they received a 911 call at about 4:30 p.m. referencing a man who was acting erratically. The caller requested a police response. Police say he is in his late 20s and was in the area to meet with someone.
An officer arrived on scene and a man carrying a knife came out. The officer commanded the man to put the knife down, but he refused. The officer fired his weapon and hit the man.
Officers rendered first aid to the man before the Tucson Fire Department could arrive. TFD brought the man to a hospital with serious injuries. He is in stable condition. The officer was not injured.
Internal Affairs is investigating the incident just like with every officer-involved shooting. The Homicide Unit is investigating the criminal aspect according to Sgt. Dugan.
