PHOENIX (AP) — Phoenix police say officers investigating a homicide fatally shot a man who had just shot and wounded a police dog inside an apartment Thursday.
Sgt. Ann Justus said the incident occurred after officers were directed to an apartment after police responding to a report of gunshots found the homicide victim’s body nearby.
Justus said five officers shot the armed man when he came out of the apartment with a gun after shooting the police dog.
Justus said the dog is expected to make a full recovery and is being credited with saving the lives of officers.
