Crews from the Northwest Fire District responded to a mobile home fire Saturday afternoon, according to Deputy Chief Scott Hamblen of NW Fire.
Firefighters arrived to the scene of the mobile home fire at 12:30 p.m. near Curtis Road and Royal Palm Drive.
Hamblen says the owner of the home noticed smoke coming from a mobile home on the property that was being used for storage.
The owner called 9-1-1 and tried to extinguish the fire with a garden hose. The homeowner was able to stay in a safe location and wait for firefighters to arrive to the scene.
The first crews on scene found an active fire in a wall mounted swamp cooler that had extended into the storage area of the structure.
Firefighters were able to extinguish the swamp cooler that was on fire and contain the fire to the room where the fire began.
In total, 21 firefighters responded and were able to contain the fire 10 minutes after arrival.
NW Fire says that residents should have their cooling systems checked to ensure safety and reliability as summer heat approaches.
