The Northwest Fire District has been awarded a $10,700 grant from the Governor's Office of Highway Safety to help better protect small passengers with child restraint systems.

Northwest Fire's ambulances are now equipped with pediatric harnesses.

The pediatric harnesses work with the ambulance gurneys to give tiny patients extra safety measures.

Money from the grant will also allow the fire district to give 130 car seats or boosters throughout the year to families.

According to a 2015 report by the Arizona Department of Transportation called “Arizona Motor Vehicle Crash Facts,”20 children ages 0-9 died and 1,972 others in Arizona were injured as a result of motor vehicle accidents in 2014."
