TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - William Tolano, 57, was struck and killed while riding his bicycle on Monday evening.

Sgt. Kimberly Bay, spokesperson with the Tucson Police Department, says officers responded to reports of a collision involving a bicyclist in the 6200 block of South Nogales Highway.

When officers arrived on scene, they located an unresponsive man on the ground.

Officers rendered first aid until Tucson Fire arrived and transported Tolano to Banner University Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.

Tolano succumbed to injuries and was pronounced deceased at the hospital, said Bay. The female driver of the vehicle was not injured.

Detectives learned the bicyclist was eastbound across South Nogales Highway, just south of East Bilby Road. The driver of a 2005 Hyundai Santa Fe was traveling northbound on Nogales Highway in the curb lane and struck the bicyclist as he was crossing.

The bicyclist was not wearing a helmet, said Bay.
